Client:
Electronic Document Interface centers for all the Western Region Ports, for the Indian Governments' revenue service at JNPT, Bombay, Kandla, Ahmedabad, and Goa.

Challenge:
Electronic Document Interface (EDI) was introduced to share information across the country from a common database by the Indian Customs department at the Ports and Airports. This was to ensure that the Custom House Agents (CHA) or exporters would not bill twice in two different locations and claim duty drawbacks or government concessions twice.

Solution:
Every Port is connected to a common database where export bills, import bills export general manifesto and other documents are stored. Each location has secondary server on which data is captured and processed until it is error free in terms of items codes, CHA codes etc. Once appraiser verifies and checks the goods physically and the shipping bill number is issued the data is automatically transferred to the primary server. The data cannot be modified without prior written permission from the Commissioner of Customs. The above process is supported by Sun Microsystems hardware and is controlled and manned by our team of about 135 personnel. Mr.Reuben Alphonso Handles and Heads the entire Operations jointly with CMC Ltd .

Result:
The Indian customs have saved millions due to the above system, which has prevented the malpractice of double billing from two different locations. Information can be viewed across the country with proper authentication within seconds. To monitor the entire staff Comp-Use has developed a web based application which gives various management information system reports like operator errors, attendance, performance per hour etc.
